Finally adding some foods in – 2 years SCD

I’ve been on SCD for over 2 years now and mostly symptom-free (at least digestive symptoms) for almost a year now. I decided finally to start adding some foods in.

First food I tried was at New Years dinner I had some sweet potato. Just a little bit to start with and I felt fine. This week I had a small amount of sweet potato with two meals and I still feel fine. I tend to bake it and then slather it with lots of butter. It’s so nice to add something to my diet for once!

I’m hoping to try gluten-free soy sauce (tamari sauce) soon as well. Not sure how I’ll react to soy at many who are sensitive to gluten are sensitive to soy as well. I just would love to have soy sauce again. With a Chinese boyfriend whose mom is always trying to cook for me, it would be a lot easier with it.

I still don’t miss bread, pasta or rice, so I’m holding off on grains for a long time probably. Potatoes would just be a nice addition so that I’m not eating squash and beets every day.

Also got on Twitter recently. I really like Twitter, it’s just so easy to keep up with real food news and people’s blogs. My Twitter name is scdkat if anyone is on there too.

I have a bunch of new recipes to post up soon. Hoping to figure out a better format for displaying recipes.

I have been following the Specific Carbohydrate Diet since January 2008 to recover from Celiac disease. As part of the diet, I don't eat grains, sugar or potatoes and prepare all my meals from scratch.

  1. South River Miso offers gluten free & soy free misos & tamaris made of chickpea and azuki bean.
I've been using these without any problem.

  2. Hey that's interesting, I never even thought to look for something like that. I might try the soy-based Tamari first, but if I have any problems I'll be sure to check it out. Thanks!
